Hey, I’m Jaz from The Life of a Social Butterfly, a blogger sharing affordable luxury boutique breaks and destination dining guides to help you plan your perfect holiday itinerary!
I recently enjoyed a short break to Split, Croatia, with Jet2holidays to check out some of the best day trips from Split, which coincidentally this guest post for the Jet2Blog is all about!
Get ready to discover the most scenic national parks, epic island tours and some iconic Game of Thrones filming locations!
A holiday in Split to remember
Split is one of Croatia’s most popular holiday destinations. It boasts a prime position along the Dalmatian Coast, making it ideal for visiting neighbouring islands Brač and Hvar. It also has a huge port and an eclectic mix of intriguing historical sites and beautiful beaches.
While the best of Split’s attractions can be enjoyed within a day or two, one of the biggest draws of Split is that it’s a well-placed base to enjoy some of Croatia’s top attractions.
Best of all, the Jet2holidays in-resort team can assist in helping you book tours and day trips from Split. Simply browse the tours available from the Experiences booklet provided by your Jet2holidays Resort Customer Helper.
Split City Tour
Of course, before you embark on day trips from Split, you may want to familiarise yourself with the city itself, and this is where the Split City Tour comes in!
Operating from Split or Brač Island (if you’re staying there), this two-hour tour of Split includes entrance to St Domnius Cathedral for 360-degree views over the city. You can also browse the labyrinth of enchanting streets contained within Diocletian’s Palace, a 3rd-century site built for Roman Emperor Diocletian, which occupies over half of Split’s Old Town. It’s now a popular UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Don’t miss the intriguing Egyptian sphinx in Diocletian’s Square and the underground cellars below, where Khaleesi kept her dragons in Game of Thrones!
For hardcore Game of Thrones fans, don’t miss a trip to Klis Fortress. You may also want to combine your trip to Split with a day trip to Dubrovnik, which has various GoT locations (I’ll be sharing more on this later in this post).
Croatian Waterfalls and National Parks
Croatia is a holiday destination that has it all, including waterfalls!
One of the most beautiful places to visit in the Dalmatia region is Krka National Park, which spans 142sqm of dramatic waterfalls with a treasure trove of wildlife to uncover around the park.
Book the earliest tour to Krka to witness the unspoilt beauty of the park with fewer visitors. You can enjoy picturesque views of the cascading waterfalls, crystal-clear turquoise waters and embark on the 45-minute circular nature trail around the park.
Many tours to Krka feature a stop-off at seaside towns Šibenik or Primošten, where you can tuck into lunch with views over the beach.
If your Croatia itinerary allows, why not also visit Plitvice National Park to see even more waterfalls?
Trogir
Known as Croatia’s so-called ‘Little Venice’, Trogir is a UNESCO World Heritage Site built on the Ancient Greek settlement of Tragurion.
With picturesque places to see, why not explore this medieval town alongside Split on the UNESCO Cities Split & Trogir Tour bookable via your Resort Customer Helper? Transfers and entrance fees to cathedrals are included on this tour.
Split Island Tour Day Trip
As I mentioned earlier, one of the main benefits of basing yourself in Split is the opportunity to visit some beautiful neighbouring islands...
Brač Island Tour
The island of Brač is one of the most popular island trips from Split, most notably to visit Bol on the southern side. It’s renowned for its paradise-like beach, Zlatni Rat (which means ‘golden cape or ‘golden horn’), with stunning, turquoise waters.
Discover the brilliant beaches, azure waters and rich forests in Brač by taking the Brač Island Tour. It sets off from Supetar on the north coast, before visiting Škrip, the oldest settlement on the island. Next is Pučišća, where you’ll take in the panoramic views of Vidova Gora – the highest peak across the Adriatic islands.
Alternatively, take the Two Islands Swimming Cruise, which not only includes a trip to Brač, but also a stop-off at the lesser-known isle of Šolta. You can have lunch and swim at a local beach.
Hvar Island Tour
Hvar is renowned for its party atmosphere that comes alive in the summer! However, it’s also worth visiting there for exquisite dining spots, charming architecture and lavender fields.
Staying in Split provides the ideal opportunity to visit Hvar via ferry or speedboat, or you can even stay in Hvar for a few nights of your holiday.
City Day Trips from Split
Split is located on the Dalmatian Coast, so it’s great for exploring other popular Croatian cities such as Zadar and Dubrovnik, and even Mostar in Bosnia.
If your Croatia itinerary allows, why not combine your trip to Split with another iconic city?
Day trip to Mostar from Split
Croatia’s shared border with Bosnia & Herzegovina presents the prime opportunity to visit another country during your trip!
Mostar sits on the banks of the Neretva River and the iconic Old Bridge may be a view you’ve seen on Instagram and longed to see with your own eyes.
Located an hour and a half from Split, Mostar is around two hours south of Bosnia’s capital Sarajevo.
Dubrovnik The Pearl of the Adriatic
If, like me, you can’t get enough of Game of Thrones filming locations in Croatia, don’t miss visiting King’s Landing… I mean, Dubrovnik!
Many visitors to Split, quite literally split (pardon the pun!) their holiday between there and Dubrovnik, and it couldn’t be easier to visit both. Especially as you can book a day trip to Dubrovnik from Split with your Jet2holidays Resort Customer Helper.
Start with a scenic drive along the Dalmatian Coast, passing the breathtaking views of the Makarska Riviera and Neretva River Delta. Just wait until you see the medieval Old Town!
Climb the city walls with views over the Onofrio Fountain, Stradun and harbour, before taking a boat over to the mysterious Lokrum Island, inhabited by wild bunnies and peacocks. Don’t miss the chapel on the island either, where you can sit on the Iron Throne!
Take the cable car up Srd Hill at sunset for breathtaking views of the city below, before enjoying a meal al fresco in the Old Town. I’ve shared more recommendations including places to dine on my blog.
I hope this post has given you lots of inspiration for Split tours and day trips to enjoy during your holiday!
Happy travels!
