When you’re ready to experience the go-slow island life, hop over to Symi. The button-sized villages beckon with local food, traditions and boutiques, but what’s a holiday without some beach days? Here’s a handy guide to the best pebbly plots on the island!
Nos Beach
With its pebbly yet chalk-white shore, sunbeds and nearby tavernas, Nos Beach is one of the popular choices for those staying in Ano Symi. It’s also the only one on the island offering water sports!
Gialos Beach
Located in the heart of Symi’s main harbour, Gialos Beach offers a blend of charm and convenience. Its modest size doesn’t attract a lot of travellers, so it’s ideal if you’re looking for some solitude.
Panormitis Beach
Nestled near the famous Panormitis Monastery, this beach offers a peaceful retreat on the island's southern coast. Expect a mix of sand and pebbles, washed by calm, clear waters inviting you for a refreshing swim.
Nimborio Beach
Also known as Emborios Beach, this rocky stretch is a beauty. Resting around a 30-minute walk away from Symi Town, it’s easily reachable by foot or a water taxi. It’s a favourite among families – the towering trees offer refreshing shade for the little ‘uns!
Marathounda Beach
Tranquillity and goat company, anyone? Yep, you read that right, this place is home to goats roaming between the sunbeds freely. This peaceful pebble beach also features crystal-clear waters and a small taverna serving fresh seafood!
Nanou Beach
This secluded gem, shadowed by towering cliffs, isn’t the easiest to reach, but oh, is it worth it! You can access it by taking a scenic hike, but if you only packed flip flops, boat rides are available too. The clear waters and crowd-free stretch makes it a favourite with snorkelers too.
Pedi Bay
Pedi Bay is an area made up of several small sandy stretches, and they’re every bit as stunning as the other sandy swathes on this list. If you have the time, be sure to explore the surrounding bays too – it’s a popular route with boat tours.
Toli Beach
Seeking solitude on your Symi jollies? Toli Beach is the one you’ve been looking for. This remote, serene beachfront on the island’s western coast lures the relaxed visitors with its peaceful atmosphere.
Agios Georgios Disalona Beach
Surrounded by dramatic cliffs, this secluded seaside strip offers stunning scenery and crystalline waters that will make everyone reach for a snorkelling mask. Keep in mind that it’s only accessible by boat – that’s part of the fun though, right?
