Set your sights on sun-splashed Skiathos for a Caribbean-style holiday much closer to home. Your day-to-day will feel miles away when you’re reclining on a peaceful patch of coastal countryside, as sunshine sieves through the pine trees. And if you’re wondering where’s best to unroll your beach towel, we’re in the know about where to go…

Koukounaries Beach
Ready for some R&R? This Blue Flag gem understands the assignment. Bordered by the azure Aegean on one side and a lush forest on the other, it’s the perfect place for reclining in the rays. There are plenty of amenities, including sunloungers and beach bars. Fancy upping the tempo? You can get stuck into some water sports too!
Banana Beach
You’ll find this golden sweep on the island’s west coast. Soak up the views or take a dip in the clear waters. When it’s time to seek out some shade and refreshments, head to the beachfront bar. This is a local’s favourite for an end-of-the-day tipple, so order a cocktail and settle in for a sunset spectacle.

Lalaria Beach
Only accessible by boat, Lalaria Beach is a real showstopper. It’s a secluded spot, lined with marine-blue caves and fragrant pine trees – and that’s about it. No bar, just sparkling waters tailor-made for swimming and snorkelling. Bring water shoes if you have them, as it’s a pebbly patch.
Elia Beach
If you’re after somewhere a little more secluded, Elia Beach is a sunbathing standout. You can reach it by car, or the local bus will drop you off just a short walk from the shore. The waters are nice and shallow – ideal if you’re visiting with tots.

Troulos Beach
This picturesque plot is another that boasts a Blue Flag. Families flock here to enjoy the primed-for-paddling waters, choice of sunbeds and umbrellas and natural shade. Sandcastle competition, anyone? And when tums are rumbling, there’s a selection of traditional tavernas to choose from.
Agia Eleni Beach
Agia Eleni Beach has got all you could need for a day by the sea. On one side of the cove, you’ll clock all the usual amenities, including a taverna. On the other, you’ll find ample space to sprawl, undisturbed. Its location, on the western side of the island, makes it a top pick for sunset-watching too.

Vromolimnos Beach
Nestled in a calm cove, with Skiathos’ trademark pine-forest backdrop, Vromolimnos Beach has got lots to shout about. It gets busy here during the summer, so get down early to secure a sunbed. Once you’re all lounged out, make your way to the lively beach bar for drinks with a view.
Xenia Beach
If things are a little crowded on the popular Koukounaries Beach, set your sights on this nearby stretch. Get ready to marvel at the see-straight-to-the-bottom waters and stunning surroundings. Bring a good book and bed down for a magically mellow afternoon.
