On many beaches along Pula and the Istrian Coast’s staggering 540km coastline, Blue Flags wave, turquoise waters shimmer and the rays reflect off the sun-bleached shores. But which beaches are worthy additions to your bucket list? From bustling beachfronts to blissful bays, we’ve lined up a handful of the hottest, worthy-of-a-visit spots.
Amarin Beach, Rovinj
If you’re after the dreamiest place to enjoy some fun in the sun, Amarin Beach is the one for you. As it’s part of the Resort Amarin Rovinj, there’s a small charge to rent the sunbeds. Trust us though, the pristine pebbled shore, lapped by calm, azure water is worth the cost. If you visit at prime time, you’ll find a large inflatable floating in the water that provides endless entertainment for the family. You can catch the rays all day long on this slice of picture-perfect shoreline, as its Blue Flag dances in the breeze.
Beach Hawaii, Pula
This is one of Pula’s most breathtaking coves, thanks to the rocky terrain that opens onto bleached pebbles and shimmering, clear waters. Further along the shore the water deepens, making it an ideal spot for divers and snorkellers too! Thanks to its location beneath the Hotel Park Plaza Arena, you’ll find plenty of bars and restaurants just a short stroll away. Sip on beachfront tipples or watch the sun set on the rippling water while you have a bite to eat.
Brulo Beach, Porec
This protected bay is surrounded by shady pines, cypress trees and oak woods, making it ideal for hot summer days, where natural shade is a welcome respite. The cosy cove offers a fab location for activities. Spend your days catching the rays, enjoying the fun-filled water inflatables, getting to know the marine life or embarking on a boat trip. The half pebble, half sand beach is a popular spot with families looking for day-long entertainment, as well as a relaxing base.
Girandella Beach, Rabac
Marked with a Blue Flag and boasting a beautiful, pebbled shoreline, it’s easy to see why Girandella Beach is a favourite among tourists and locals alike. You can rest in the shade of the surrounding pine trees, while taking in the stunning views. Or why not add some excitement to your day and go for a ride on the thrilling banana boat or turn your hand to water-skiing? With plenty of parasols to rent you can set up base right next to the crystal-clear water. And this is the ideal beach to visit if you’re a fan of snorkelling, as you’ll find a variety of marine life near the rockface. Once your day on the sand comes to an end, stroll to one of the nearby bars and enjoy an evening drink as the sun sets on the Adriatic.
Lanterna Beach, Rabac
The soughtafter Lanterna Beach lies just east of Rabac and is one of the more popular shorelines in this area. Thanks to its Blue Flag status, calm waters and long stretch of rocky and sandy shoreline, Lanterna attracts those after a busier beach with top-notch facilities. You’ll find plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas here and the on-site showers, changing blocks and beach bar make this an all-round winner. In between topping up your tan, take a ride on the thrilling banana boat, or let the little ones play in the shallow water.
