R&R top of your holiday agenda? This beautiful island, floating just off the coast of the Greek capital, is known for its sparkling sands. Whether you’re looking for a tucked-away bay where you can escape from it all, or a buzzy beach with a lively atmosphere, there’s a lounging location with your name on it in Aegina.
Souvala Beach
When the sun has got its hat on, there are few places better to spend the day than Souvala Beach. The crystal-clear waters are primed for swimming, and there are plenty of sun beds and umbrellas to rent. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, head to one of the beachside bars for a seafood feast.
Aeginitissa Beach
This popular patch comes equipped with everything you could need for a chilled afternoon by the waves. We’re talking sun beds and umbrellas to rent, as well as a beach bar. It’s backed by eucalyptus trees, if you want to escape the rays.
Klima Beach
Located on the south side of the island, Klima Beach attracts families and friends alike. It’s great for snorkelling too. Why not bring your gear and see what fish you can spy? It can get quite busy here on weekends, so head down early to bag your spot.
Agia Marina Beach
Handy facilities? Clear waters? There’s no surprise this beach has been awarded a Blue Flag. There are several restaurants nearby, where you can dine with your toes in the sand. During the summer, you can also get stuck into some water sports, like paddleboarding.
Vagia Beach
Vagia Beach is just the ticket for solace-seekers. Soak up the laidback atmosphere or enjoy a drink at the beach bar. If you want to explore a little more, you can walk further along the coast, where a handful of cosy coves await.
Moni Island Beach
Fancy a day trip? Moni Island, opposite Aegina, is well worth a visit. Boats depart from Perdika, and it takes around 20 minutes. Keep an eye out for the peacocks, deer and Cretan kri-kri goats that call this place home. The beach is surrounded by pine forests, and there are a few walking trails if you tire of sunbathing. It is a rocky beach, so it’s best to bring sturdy shoes.
Marathon Beach
Marathon is known for its two neighbouring beaches, Marathon A and Marathon B. The latter is slightly larger and less busy – perfect if you’re visiting with little ones. Both have golden grains and shallow waters, so who’s for building sandcastles? They're also some of the best places to catch the sunset. Cameras at the ready!
