Romance runs rich through Verona’s veins, but there’s so much more to this city than its star-crossed sights. Located in the heart of Italy’s largest wine-producing region, Veneto, you can expect an enoteca (wine bar) on every corner, as well as swish cocktail lounges, quaint pubs and rooftop terraces. The night is young, and the opportunities are endless…
Antica Bottega del Vino
Step into one of the oldest wine bars in Verona, dating back to the 16th century. You’re bound to be bowled over by the wall-to-wall wine selections, but thankfully, the knowledgeable sommeliers are on hand to help you find your favourite. Why not make a night of it and dine in as well? The risotto with Amarone is a popular palate-pleaser.
Terrazza Bar al Ponte
If you’re all about the views, Terrazza Bar al Ponte is the spot for you. Perched on the banks of the Adige, you’ll get a front-row seat to some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Ponte Pietra and Castel San Pietro. You’ll have to get down early to snap up a space on the outdoor terrace, but trust us, it’s well worth it.
The Soda Jerk
This speakeasy-style bar serves up some of the best cocktails around. Go for a classic like an Old Fashioned or try one of their quirkier combinations. Who’s for a To go bananas (tequila, white chocolate, banana and pistachio)? If you get peckish, the food menu spans everything from pizza to truffle toasties.
Dancing until dawn on your agenda? Make your way down to Dorian Gray, a buzzing nightclub open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They often host events, themed nights and DJs, so be sure to check what’s on before you go. Pop down a bit earlier and opt for the pizza menu, which includes club entry as well as dinner.
What this bar lacks in space, it more than makes up for in character. Tucked away in the old town, you’ll find a handful of tables alongside shelves filled with every kind of tipple you can think of. Watch the mixologists craft their creations using only the freshest ingredients and look out for the monthly specials. If cocktails aren’t your thing, the extensive craft beer selection might just tickle your fancy.
Terrazza Arena Sky Lounge Bar & Restaurant
Dotted with terracotta-topped treasures, Verona’s skyline is a sight to behold. Experience the city from its best angle at this rooftop bar, located on top of the Hotel Milano & SPA. If you can peel yourself away from the panoramas, there’s a long list of cocktails to make your way through.
Big on your beer? Whatever your pint of choice, you’ll find it here. Beyond its brews, this bar prides itself on its homely atmosphere, which attracts everyone from local students to fun-loving tourists. There are TV screens if you want to catch the sport, and a food menu made up of all your usual pub grub favourites.
The funky décor is probably the first thing you’ll notice when you step inside Rivamancina, with its exposed brick walls covered in modern art. Outside, it’s all about the beautiful backdrop and riverside vistas. Head down here for an aperitivo in the early evening or come after 11pm when there are often DJs spinning the decks. Delicious, handmade empanadas are the icing on the cake!
- Piazza delle Erbe is the city’s nightlife hub, packed with bars, restaurants and clubs.
- Between 7pm and 9pm, it’s aperitivo time, where you’ll get a selection of finger food alongside your drink.
- For an after-dark activity with a twist, visit during the Verona Opera Festival, which usually runs from June to September.
