A guide to the Algarve's nightlife

Ready to hit the dancefloor but not sure where? We hear you. Here's our ultimate guide to the Algarve’s nightlife.

So, you've landed in the picturesque Algarve where the sun's hot, the beaches are sandy and the nights out are unrivalled! From bustling bars to cool-as-anything clubs, here's your ultimate guide to painting the Algarve red.

Vilamoura

Vilamoura is the crown jewel in the Algarve's nightlife crown. This glitzy marina town is where crowds gather to party, and trust us, you'll want to be at the heart of it all. Head over to cosmopolitan Purobeach for chilled vibes through the day, which turn extra-lively the second sun goes down.

Like to get straight into the thick of things? Time to find a designated driver or a taxi and head to Lick. Although it’s the most popular spot in Albufeira, this mega-club is closer to Vilamoura, so a bit of driving could be required. But just wait until you step foot inside, where international DJs keep the beats pumping until the early hours. Five floors of tropical tunes await, so put on your A-game outfit to stand out!

Tip:

Things start fashionably late here. Most places don't get going until well past midnight, so have an afternoon nap if you must, but don't peak too soon.

Albufeira

Albufeira is like the nightlife buffet of the Algarve, if you will – there’s plenty to choose from and everyone will find something they fancy. Begin your nocturnal adventure at The Strip, an electric stretch of bars and clubs. Our top choices? The popular Kiss Club for top-notch electronic music or a themed party at Wild & Co. Alternatively, bring the energy to one of the many other glam hotspots on the 2km of pure party vibes!

Prefer a more laidback experience? Venture to Albufeira Old Town. The blend of cobbled streets and bountiful bars is less intense than The Strip but still provides a great atmosphere to get moving. Sip fancy cocktails or ice-cold pints until dawn, as this party town doesn’t go to sleep at least until 4am.

Tip:

If you want to try the local liqueur, try medronho. But be sure not to try it on an empty stomach.

Lagos

Lagos is a beachy, bohemian paradise by day and a vibrant nightlife haven come nightfall. You’ll quickly notice that it attracts younger crowds, but everyone will find a buzzy spot with their name on it. To start on the right foot, slide into Rua 25 de Abril to take your pick of bars galore. From pubs to clubs, watering holes open at different times of the day, so you can easily spend the afternoon bar-hopping here. Top picks? Funky ZanziBar, The Sanctuary for cocktails and Bon Vivant for rooftop views with a drink in hand.

When it's time to up the ante, follow the crowd to InsideOut. Quench your thirst with the famous fishbowl cocktails as you dance the night away to banging beats on the packed dancefloor. The club gets quite busy after midnight, so make sure to turn up before then.

Tip:

Most clubs have a dress code, so rock your snazziest outfit with confidence.

Praia da Rocha

Praia da Rocha is where you'll spy some of the trendiest beach bars in the Algarve. Your first port of call has to be Avenida Tomas Cabreira – sitting parallel to the glimmering shore, this lively street is dotted with quirky bars and cocktail spots to spend your evenings.

Trying to keep it low-key? The Manhattan Café is a tiny hidden bar that serves lush cocktails until 12am. It’s perfect for relaxed pre-drinks.

Then, make your way to NoSoloÁgua – a trendy beach club where sunset cocktails, infinity pools and sea views are in store. If you’re all about keeping that Insta feed fresh, this is just the ticket.

Tip:

Not all places accept cards, so make sure you have some euros on hand.
