Day 1: Arrival and evening exploration

Arrive in Rome via a Jet2 flight, settle into your hotel and get ready to explore. We checked into the quirky, LGBTQ+-friendly Mama Shelter Roma, known for its colourful décor and welcoming atmosphere.

After settling in, indulge in vegan gelato at L'Arena del Gelato and enjoy budget-friendly vegan pizza at Pizzeria Romana al Taglio. Take the afternoon to stroll through the city's charming streets, perhaps visiting the lively Piazza Navona or the picturesque St. Angelo Bridge.

As evening approaches, make your way to Chiesa del Gesù, an early Baroque church famous for its illusionary murals and a spectacular evening event where a painting of St. Ignatius reveals a gilded statue.

Wrap up the day with a relaxed dinner, savouring authentic Roman pizza at one of the city's many inviting restaurants. We dined at Rossopomodoro, enjoying vegan mozzarella pizza with a view of ancient Roman ruins.

Day 2: Vatican City and Castel Sant'Angelo

Start your first full day with a visit to Castel Sant'Angelo, an impressive fortress with a fascinating history. Originally built as a mausoleum for Emperor Hadrian, it later served as a papal residence, fortress and prison. Exploring the layers of Roman, medieval and Renaissance architecture is a journey through time, with the top of the castle offering breathtaking panoramic city views.

For lunch, grab a bite at Pinsa' mpò, where you can indulge in some people-watching while enjoying fresh pizza, including a delicious vegan option.

Spend your afternoon marveling at the treasures of the Vatican museums and the Sistine Chapel. Be sure to visit St. Peter's Basilica to experience the spiritual and architectural wonder that dominates Vatican City. We were captivated by Michelangelo's frescoes and the grandeur of St. Peter's Basilica.

After soaking up some of the world's most beautiful art and history, savour dinner at a nearby restaurant. After a day of exploration and adventure, we found the perfect spot to wind down. Dinner at Ristorante Vegano Ma Va'? was a delight, with a fresh vegan pasta menu rich in vibrant, plant-based creations tucked away in a quiet corner of Rome.

From there, head to the Roman Forum, a site steeped in history, and finish with a walk through Palatine Hill. These landmarks provide an incredible insight into the grandeur of ancient Rome.

For those looking to indulge in some great vegan food while exploring the area, here are two standout options we highly recommend: Lunch at Pizzeria Boccaccia – Hidden away on Via Leonina, 73, this cosy pizzeria offers a fantastic selection of vegan pizza slices and a delectable calzone.

After lunch, satisfy your sweet tooth with a stop at this nearby gelato shop, Gelateria dell'Angeletto. Known for its generous range of vegan options, you'll easily spot the flavours with their signature blue spoons.
