Mah Cala Macarella Beach 0117 06

Menorca

From beach-hopping to bike rides…

Magical Menorca is a real contender for family activity holidays. Thanks to its diverse landscape, it’s the ultimate pick for outdoor sports. Hopping from one patch of sun-soaked sand to another is easy, as Menorca’s sprinkled with brilliant beaches and cosy coves. Who’s up for a sandcastle-building contest?

If hitting the beach is too tame for you, how about a bike ride? You and the kids can hire some wheels and cycle across some of Menorca’s most stunning spots. From coastal roads to stony trails, you’ll find a good choice of routes – just be careful to pick one that’s gentle enough.

Puy The Plitvice Lakes 535434737 Rfis 0517

Croatia

For national park exploration…

It’s an oasis of lush landscape in colour-splashed Croatia. And if you and the children are eager to see the best bits for yourselves, make a beeline for Krka National Park first. You’ll be in for a medley of cascading waterfalls, jaw-dropping canyons and mighty gorges. Trudge through dense greenery, stop for photos and even consider some short boat trips. For more of the same, you’ll be in awe of the interconnecting lakes, waterfalls and forests of Plitvice Lakes National Park. The waters radiate a dreamy aquamarine colour and jagged mountains surround the area.

Tenerife

An adventure awaits…

If there’s one thing about this Canarian island that really sets it apart in the nature stakes, it’s Mount Teide. Tenerife houses Spain’s highest peak and it’s the perfect place to spy epic views of the whole isle. Book a cable car trip up to Mount Teide and get set for oohs and ahhs as you ascend the summit of the volcano. The kids will be speechless, for a change!

Blue Lagoon Mlata 594455562 Rfis 0217

Malta

Water babies: unite!

The ideal place for water-based family activity holidays? You won’t leave Malta disappointed. Its sister islands, Gozo and Comino, are equally well suited for aquatic adventures of discovery, too. Head to Comino and prepare to clap eyes on the glittering waters of the Blue Lagoon. It’s a great choice for a swim in the shallows! You can also hop on a ferry to Gozo and see what snorkelling options are there – it depends on what’s available for families with young kids. A water-centred crowd-pleaser? It’s got to be Mellieha Bay Beach. The vast sandy bay isn’t usually packed, so it’s super for families.

Her Samaria Gorge Crete 497146234 Rfis 0217

Crete

Walk this way…

Another beach favourite for a family adventure holiday is Crete. Choose from sand-covered sheets of coastline and pebbly patches – each one of the island’s seafront picks has something unique, so you’re bound to find one you’ll enjoy.

Crete’s also got some excellent areas for hiking. Okay, the youngsters might roll their eyes if you pitch a long walk, but once they’ve taken a “leisurely stroll” around Samaria Gorge, they’ll be glad they went. The national park is open to the public between May and October.

So, come on then – where’s it gonna be for your next holiday?
